HELP NEEDED

Parents, we need your help! Even if you feel that you are not creative, please don't let that stop you. If you can cut or hang paper, you are perfect!

Each year, the Fourth Grade teachers host "Camp Write Along" two weeks before the STAAR Writing Test.  (Test is on April 1 and 2). We use this time to creatively review skills that will be seen and prepare for greatness.
The kids absolutely love it, yet much is needed to get ready for this event. We plan to start camp when we return from Spring Break.

First, we decorate the entire Fourth Grade hall as a forest/campground. Butcher paper from the workroom is used for grass, sky, trees, tents, campfires, etc.
**Please consider lending a hand to create this magical scene and be here Thursday, March 6th at 10:00. The more parents that show up, the quicker and easier it goes up.Thank you SO MUCH for your support!

Second, we love to serve s'mores and trail mix at a couple of the stations.
***We will need donations for the following:
M & Ms- plain
Chex Cereal
Pretzels
Cheeze Itz
Goldfish
Teddy Grahams
mini marshmallows
large marshmallows
Boxes of graham crackers
Hershey Bars- mini or regular size

Please consider providing a few items, if able. The kids absolutely LOVE it and the teachers cannot handle these expenses for 46 kiddos. We are hoping to be able to carry out this experience with all desired supplies to enhance the learning environment! Thank you very much!

Carnival Auction Basket Challenge

The 2014 Silent Auction Kick-off Challenge begins tomorrow, February 13th!!
Each year at carnival, a silent auction is held to raise money for the school.  Each class partners with another class to create a themed auction basket. Students in the class bring in items to fill the basket.  The class that receives the most money for their basket at auction will receive a Sonic drink party!  Students have until March 18th to turn in items.  Additional information regarding the auction baskets along with ideas for items to bring can be found in students’ Thursday envelopes.

Our classes have been partnered to fill a BBQ basket. Please consider contributing to our BBQ basket!

Email Difficulties

We are experiencing difficulties with some email addresses right now. Hotmail.com, Outlook.com, MSN.com, and Live.com are not able to receive emails from our school accounts. The Tech Department is working to resolve this issue. If you do not receive a reply email within the normal allotted time, please be patient. As soon as the issue is resolved we will respond.

Back in the Swing

We had a good first week back. The kids seem refreshed and ready for second semester. This will be a busy semester and always seems to fly by.

Mid Year Benchmarks are next week; Math will be given on Tuesday followed by Reading on Wednesday. Thank you for making sure your child gets to bed early, eats a nutritious breakfast, and gets to school on time.

AIMS Web Winter Progress Testing window opens at the end of the month. Results will be sent home and mid-year conferences will be made, if necessary.

Please keep in mind that tutoring has resumed in the computer. If your child was asked to partake in this opportunity, please efforts to be there during the session you chose (7:00-7:30  OR 2:30-3:00)

Class pictures will be taken next Wednesday, January 15th. An envelope regarding cost was sent home in yesterday's folder.

Have a great weekend!

Happy New Year!

We hope you and your loved ones had a restful holiday! It is wonderful to see the bright faces back in our classroom and everyone looks mysteriously older. Yikes!

Intervention/Enrichment Folders

A brown manila envelope (folder) was sent home on the Friday before the winter break. I want to explain these folders in a little more detail so that they are used effectively and aid in success.
There are 2 items that REMAIN IN THE FOLDER AT ALL TIMES...
-The letter of explanation
-The Reading Response Log

All else will be changed out EACH FRIDAY.
**The important thing to understand is that the Reader's Response Log is only used WHEN A BOOK IS SENT HOME IN THE FOLDER. There will not be a book sent every week. Also, answers to the questions do not need to be written down, only discussed. Of course, the option to write is yours.

Mrs. Milot will be providing Math and I will focus on reading/comprehension/fluency. Work in the folder will vary and focus on skills needed at that time for your child
For instance, I (Mrs. C) will be placing AIMS progress monitoring practice in the folder this Friday since we will have our second round of testing at the end of the month. ***The directions for how to complete and aid in this work IS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PARENT LETTER. Hence, the reason for it to stay in the folder with the Reading Log. Both assignments are timed. Students may use phone, iTouch, iPod, etc to set 1 minute and 3 minutes sessions.Thank you for your support!

**Please make sure that your child turns in their folder EACH FRIDAY. Thank you!
